Frequently Asked Questions:

How can I be ready for the studio?

Prepare, prepare, prepare! This will save you both frustration and wasted studio time. Here’s a brief list of questions to consider:

Are my songs complete and well learned?

Are all of my musicians prepared?

Are my instruments tuned and free of problems?

Do I have a clear idea of the result that I want?

Do I understand the rates and approximately how long the recording will take?

Am I physically and mentally prepared for the session?

Recording should be a fun experience, and preparation is one of the biggest parts of a stress-free session.

What does the engineering rate include?

Following discussion and negotiation prior to all recording sessions, the engineering fees will provide the musician(s) with the necessary equipment and engineering skill in order to produce a final recording in digital format. Recordings will be tracked and mixed to the best of my ability, based on the expectations agreed upon by all parties.

Do breaks count as studio time?

I consider billable hours to be only those when actively in the studio. Songwriting or reworking of songs does qualify as billable hours.

What is mastering?

Mastering is the final step in the recording process. This includes using special techniques with specific equipment to create the proper listening level and continuity between all tracks. I generally refer clients to Trevor Sadler at Mastermind Productions.  He is specially trained as a Mastering Engineer with the equipment necessary for a professional final master. For those on a budget, I am glad to provide my own mastering, as well.
