A Wedding and the First Week

These last couple of weeks have been a blur.  We went back home to Wisconsin for Cassie’s sister’s wedding, and I was a groomsman.  I also played a couple songs on guitar and sang at the reception, and I even got Cassie to harmonize with me!

It all went really well.  It was a great day, and I am so glad to see how happy Cassie’s sister and her new husband are together.

And as always, it’s great to see family again (me & my bro):

The first week of classes just wrapped up, and I was so exhausted that I took a two hour nap this afternoon!  The good news is that the classes all were a lot of fun, and we have a nice long labor day weekend ahead of us.  Cassie and I are planning on a visit to Sioux Falls tomorrow to get some home improvement stuff, and just to get away and have a good time.  The rest of the weekend will be dedicated to getting some work done around the house and preparing for next week’s classes.  Until then, enjoy the holiday weekend!
Once again, the always great pics were provided by my parents!

The acoustic show at the Fixx Coffee House was a lot of fun!  Some family and friends showed up and we had a good ‘ol time.  I am planning on posting several videos, but here is a first one from the show.  It also happens to be my first YouTube video uploaded in HD, so I’m glad I figured everything out:

And a great pic that my wife shot:

It’s hard to believe, but my final semester is just over a week away. There will me much more happening with my final video project and other fun stuff, so stay tuned as always!

Acoustic Show in Milwaukee!

I’m playing an acoustic show tomorrow with my good friend Tony Memmel at the Fixx Coffee House in St. Francis, Wisconsin.  It is just a little ways south of downtown Milwaukee.  It looks to be a great time!  Here’s the details:

Return from the West

* These pics are by Cassie from her blog.

We just returned last week from our nine-day trip out west to Colorado and Utah.  Despite about 3,400 miles of driving, it was an incredible vacation that was well worth all of the hours on the road.
Throughout the course of the trip, I shot nearly five hours of HD video, and Cassie took over 1,500 pictures!  Needless to say, the trip was well documented.

Some of the highlights of the vacation included climbing to the top of the sand dunes at Sand Dunes National Park, waking up at sunrise to stand under the arches at Arches National Park, and the beauty of Rocky Mountain National Park near the charming town of Estes Park where we stayed for the final couple of nights.

I am currently editing my video and will be using much of it in my final project.  I am also planning on creating a shorter, more personal video to document the vacation.  I will post any and all new content as it comes along.

For now, check out Cassie’s blog.  She is giving a day-by-day recap and posting some fantastic shots from her Flickr account.  Check back often!

A Summer Update

It’s been too long since my last post, so I’m going to give an update on what’s been happening throughout June:

Cassie and I have been doing a lot of planning for our trip out west that we will be leaving on very shortly.  Our destinations include Colorado Springs, Estes Park, and will include a visit to four National Parks:  Rocky Mountain, Sand Dunes, Mesa Verde, and Arches in Utah.  While on the trip, I plan to begin filming my thesis project documentary.  It is going to be a short film in surround sound about the American Landscape and the places that we call home.

My parents will be leaving on the trip of a lifetime to Italy at about the same time, so we wish them happy travels and an amazing adventure!

I completed mixing Tony Memmel’s upcoming album, ‘Potter Road’ last week.  I joined Tony to listen to the album be mastered by Trevor Sadler at Mastermind in Milwaukee.  It is an excellent album and I am very proud of the project.  While in Milwaukee, we took the opportunity to visit Cassie’s sister Amy and her boyfriend Zach.

Last month, I was a wedding DJ for a friend from high school.  This prompted me to collect some new equipment, including a rocking light show!  It was a lot of fun and I hope to do more DJ projects in the future.

Our garden has been growing quite well and Cassie has been keeping up with her cooking and gardening on her blog.  (Much better than I have)

There’s still a lot of summer left, and I’m hoping to continue work on my album, visit some friends and family, and possibly get a new band going.

Right now, I’m just listening to a lot of Michael Jackson and enjoying this beautiful weather we’ve been having.  I’ll be in touch!

Moving Day

Last week, my family helped move my brother to his new apartment in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.

It was a great, sunny day for a move.  The family packed up my uncle’s truck and we spent the day moving him in and shopping for some new furniture.

Me and my bro

As for what’s going on here, I’m preparing for my wedding DJ gig this Saturday and continuing to finalize mixes.  I’m also aiming to finish planting my garden tomorrow!

Food & Gardening

As I am working on completing the mixes for Tony Memmel’s new album, Cassie & I have been keeping ourselves occupied this summer with some great food, and have also been spending some time in the garden.  (I just got started, but I’m trying to catch up!)  We have had some beautiful days here… why can’t the weather be like this all year?

Lastly, There is a deadline for an upcoming festival approaching that I will be sending a submission to: Toronto Electroacoustic Symposium 2009

In the Studio with Tony Memmel

Last week, I spent two days in the studio recording songs by Tony Memmel, along with his wife Lesleigh, and drummer Brian Farvour.

Pictured above:  Tony with his acoustic, Lesleigh at her keyboard, and Brian at the kit.

We recorded at Ark Studios, where I where I previously worked as an engineer for studio owner, Brad Depasse.  The facility is nearly finished with an amazing new website which will be going live very soon.

The band worked very hard in the studio, managing to record thirteen tracks in two days.  The music is fantastic, and I am currently mixing the project and looking forward to an amazing final result.  The album is planned for release later this summer.

A Night at Studio 303A

We went to see our good friend John Statz perform in Chicago last Wednesday night at a place called ‘Studio 303A’.  We were fortunate to meet up with him and our other good friend, Mark Roethke, for dinner.
Cassie took some great shots from the show:

I brought my new camera with me to take some test HD shots, and put together this video:

Cassie wrote a nice post on her blog.

My Completed Video Rig

I finished my rig that I will be using to shoot my thesis project!  I’m looking forward to doing a lot of filming over the summer.  It utilizes an HD camera that can record 24fps and also has an adapter that makes it compatible with manual 35mm lenses.  I got most of my information for what to use on the rig at HV20.com.

The rig as it is pictured consists of:

Canon HV20 Camcorder
IndiRails Pro 20 Rail System by Tim at IndiSystem
Jag35 ST adapter by Jehu at Jag35
Canon FD 50mm 1.4 lens
Delkin LCD Hood
