In the Studio with Tony Memmel

Last week, I spent two days in the studio recording songs by Tony Memmel, along with his wife Lesleigh, and drummer Brian Farvour.

Pictured above:  Tony with his acoustic, Lesleigh at her keyboard, and Brian at the kit.

We recorded at Ark Studios, where I where I previously worked as an engineer for studio owner, Brad Depasse.  The facility is nearly finished with an amazing new website which will be going live very soon.

The band worked very hard in the studio, managing to record thirteen tracks in two days.  The music is fantastic, and I am currently mixing the project and looking forward to an amazing final result.  The album is planned for release later this summer.

A Night at Studio 303A

We went to see our good friend John Statz perform in Chicago last Wednesday night at a place called ‘Studio 303A’.  We were fortunate to meet up with him and our other good friend, Mark Roethke, for dinner.
Cassie took some great shots from the show:

I brought my new camera with me to take some test HD shots, and put together this video:

Cassie wrote a nice post on her blog.

My Completed Video Rig

I finished my rig that I will be using to shoot my thesis project!  I’m looking forward to doing a lot of filming over the summer.  It utilizes an HD camera that can record 24fps and also has an adapter that makes it compatible with manual 35mm lenses.  I got most of my information for what to use on the rig at HV20.com.

The rig as it is pictured consists of:

IndiRails Pro 20 Rail System by Tim at IndiSystem
Jag35 ST adapter by Jehu at Jag35
Canon FD 50mm 1.4 lens
Delkin LCD Hood

On MySpace with New Tracks

I finally put together a MySpace page with some of my new tracks that are in the works!
I’m hoping to get working on the album again very shortly and finish it by midsummer.

Summer has arrived!

Well, here we are.  I made it the end of another semester.  This one was particularly challenging, but also equally rewarding.  Looking back on it, I managed to accomplish everything I set out to do, and even a little more!  I finished my Max program and did a live performance at the composer’s recital, played a surround piece at the annex show, improved my composition skills, finished my paper on Debussy, and of course, went to the SEAMUS conference.

Now it’s already time to look ahead to summer plans and goals as I continue to enjoy work at the Bose store in Huntley:

- I want to get started on my final thesis project, which will involve HD video and multi-channel audio (more on that to come)

- I’m working on finally finishing my solo album and getting a new Myspace page going for my music

- I have a new DVD project coming from Chicago art professor Gabe Akagawa

- I have several other recording projects in the works, including new projects from John Statz and Tony Memmel.

- Some summer wedding gigs are in the works for DJ services and/or video.

- Cassie and I are beginning to plan our trip out west to Colorado in July!  (More on that to come, as well)

- Finally, just keeping fit, helping Cassie with her garden, and enjoying the beautiful summer weather.

One more Grad school semester to go!
