Elainie Lillios’ Concert: A Huge Success

Last Thursday, myself along with our Graduate Assistant Evan Merz and several other students got an early start by helping Professor Lillios with an 8.1 channel electroacoustic concert setup, which included a piece with Ambisonic decoding.

Dr. Lillios began preceeded her concert that eveining with a lecture about her history in electroacoustic music, and shared with us some of the background on the pieces that would be presented at the concert.  One particular story involved her experience with composer Bebe Barron, which you can see in this video posted by Evan Merz.

The concert itself was not only packed, there were people overflowing into the hallway!  I was given the position of Dr. Lillios’ “right hand man”, essentially meaning that I start pieces when directed and pray that nothing goes wrong.  The concert featured multichannel works, along with a piece for voice and percussion and a piece involving live instrumental composition in Max/MSP performed by Steve Duke.  It was an exciting day and a fantastic concert.

Logic Express 8 Walkthrough

This is a brief and simple Logic Express walkthrough that I posted last winter after upgrading to version 8.
Apparently I was using my big hair and facial hair to keep warm for the winter.

Unpacked/Offset Catalog and DVD Completed

Several months ago, I did work on a DVD project with Chicago Art Institute instructor Gabriel Bizen Akagawa.  The DVD is part of a catalog that presents a series of projects and artwork by students at Northern Illinois University.  The completed catalog is currently being distributed, but can also be viewed online at:  http://unpacked-offset.wikispaces.com/

The portion of the DVD that I created documents the gallery show, as well as the “Freeze Project” by Billie Giese’s Eco Art class.  This video is available with others on the DVD included in the catalog.  The video is presented below:

“homespace 1″ Video Performance

This is a video of the opening piece at the 2008 Annex Group concert. It features four “homespaces” placed throughout the room, each with its own distinct sound providing texture to the composition. The piece explores the way in which we find solance and comfort in our own familiar space. Composed by Nathan Edwards and featuring Bob Wolkotte.

Welcome to the New Site!

I’m working on a facelift for my website, which will feature this up-to-date blog as I make my way through Grad school at Northern Illinois University.  Please bear with me as I continue to fine tune everything.  Thanks for checking it out!
